July Thursdays

What's In The Water Camp $180
Thursdays: July 10, 17, 24, 31  from 10-3pm
Ages 6-12

Our beautiful farm is along the shore of Swan Lake. We have a unique ecosystem that allows us to experience oh-so-many different water dwelling creatures.  At this WATER camp we will learn about all of these types of creatures: ducks, geese, swans & pelicans, plus beavers, otters & muskrats. The trout, fish & leeches too. And then some of the plants that grow best near water or in wet zones like horsetail, cattails, moss & mushrooms.  (We will spend time near the very shallow edge of the water but we will not be going in or on the water in any way. )

We will scoop up some water and look under a microscope too, to see if we can observe micro-organisms. If we have any puddles or wet zones on the property we will also explore what creatures might be there, like frogs & toads, water bugs, and how important water is for the forest creatures & plants in the summer. And of course, water for the gardens and farm animals.

Also, each Thursday, we will interact with the farm animals, pet the donkey, tend to the chickens, feed the sheep and visit the gardens to see how things are growing. We will do a lot of walking throughout our forest paths, have snack & lunch breaks, and have stories about water & water creatures, themed crafts, sing some songs and play games.

Gifts of The Forest (Foraging) Camp $180
Tuesdays: Aug 5, 12, 19, 26  from 10-3pm
Ages 6-12

August is a great time to learn about foraging in the forest! Not only will we talk about what things can be edible, but also how trees & plants were used traditionally too, like sap & leaves & bark. Peeling birch bark off is always fun.
We'll get to taste a few wild berries, like raspberries and saskatoons. We'll observe some that look like food but are not and talk about some that are edible but taste terrible (soap berries - yuck!)  We'll talk about how bark and moss and leaves have been useful in the past.
We'll observe the animals and see how they are preparing - what berries and seeds and plant parts they might be eating, storing up or using for their homes.
Also, each Tuesday, we will interact with the farm animals,  visit the chickens, brush the donkey, feed the sheep and visit the gardens to see how things are growing. We will do a lot of walking throughout our forest paths, and have stories about the forest, sing some songs and play games.

August Thursdays

Seasons Changing & Harvest Camp $180
Thursdays: Aug 7, 14, 21, 28  from 10-3pm
Ages 6-12

In August we can start to see the signs of change. Each Thursday we will discover new things slowly preparing for Fall. We will watch colours possibly change and see leaves & plants move into their new cycle. In the beginning of the month we will note how plants & trees look and each week, see how they change - flowers going to seed, berries starting to shrivel, leaves changing or dropping, animals preparing. We'll talk about how each season is different and special.

And at this camp children will get to spend lots of time in the gardens learning about harvest, enjoying picking things like carrots & beans. Seeing the flowers blossom and by the end of the month, wither. We'll talk about saving seeds for drying in the winter, some for food, and some for planting again. We'll talk about preserving the harvest and the different ways food can be stored (fridges, cold rooms, canning, freezing, dehydrating, etc)   We'll talk about food growing season coming to an end.

Also, each Thursday, we will interact with the farm animals, pet the donkey, tend to the chickens, feed the sheep and visit the gardens to see how things are growing. We will do a lot of walking throughout our forest paths, have snack & lunch breaks, and have stories about seasons & harvest, themed crafts, sing some songs and play games.

Info About Day Camps: 2025

Some things to note: Camps will run rain or shine. Please dress your child for the weather (think layers). Closed-toe shoes are required as we will be exploring a variety of terrain, some of it may be poky. Also wear clothes that could potentially get dirty as we interact with animals, the barnyard and the garden. On wetter days, gumboots are definitely recommended. We do have our Cozy Cabin where we can spend some time indoors if the weather is terrible but even on days where it is lightly raining we will still spend some time outside exploring. For the older kids camps, they will be here for 5 hours so please send a packed lunch, snack & water bottle/drink with them. We have a very nice building beside our Cozy Cabin that has two separate washrooms, each with flushing toilets and a sink to wash hands. We will send out reminders & lists of "what to bring/what not to bring" before the start of each camp.
